Help the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Thank a Nurse

Did you know that medical-surgical nursing is the single largest nursing specialty in the United States and beyond? The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) shares that information, and also defines medical-surgical nurses as nurses who provide care to adults with a variety of medical issues, or who are preparing for/recovering from surgery.

 AMSN is the only professional nursing association dedicated to medical-surgical nurses for 30 years and is made up of 12,000 medical-surgical nurse members from around the world who take pride in what they do each and every day. AMSN is also home to 37,000+ nurses who certify as CMSRNs through the AMSN certification board, MSNCB.

Medical-surgical nursing is practiced in settings across the health care industry, including hospitals, outpatient settings, same-day surgery clinics, in home care, travel nursing, telemedicine, military, educational institutions, and more. The specialty of medical-surgical nursing happens in almost every care environment because medical-surgical nursing is what you practice, not where.

After the trying year nurses have had to endure since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, AMSN wants to help show gratitude for their colleagues by collecting notes to nurses to say thank you as part of Nurses Appreciation Month.

To participate, send AMSN your note of 25 words or less and they will share it with their nurses on social media throughout the month of May.
