The Mercer County Department of Transportation just gave us an early Christmas gift. The construction on the Bakers Basin Bridge has finished... early!

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes made the announcement yesterday. The project, which started in September, was originally scheduled to finish in January (or in about three weeks).

Motorists in the area are extremely happy since the bridge is a very busy one that goes over the Shipetaukin Creek in Lawrence Township.

The bridge itself is 80 years old and received bad sufficiency ratings due to poor conditions. The replacement bridge has travel lanes that are 12 feet wide. Plus, both shoulders are five feet wide. Additionally, there is a sidewalk.

I'm sure motorists are very excited about the news since any time there is a delay or traffic in the morning commute, it can cause some frustration among drivers.
