The Phillies have the Phanatic.  The Eagles have Swoop.  The Sixers have Franklin the Dog.  And now, the Philadelphia Union soccer team have their very own mascot.  His name is Phang and he's a snake with quite a backstory.

According to the team's website, Phang's "great, great, great, great, great grandfather posed for Ben Franklin who drew the original (Join or Die flag)" which was the inspiration for the Union's team logo.

Phang "hatched" earlier today at a ceremony at the Philadelphia Zoo.  The Union have been in the MLS (Major League Soccer) since 2010 and they play their home games at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, PA.
