This will surely affect your evening commute.

New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced today (September 7) that the ramp from Route 29 and I-195 eastbound to I-295 southbound in Hamilton would be closed indefinitely for emergency repairs.

The decision to close the ramp came after an inspection found severe concrete deterioration and exposed rebar requiring immediate attention.

Unfortunately, according to the press release, it doesn't sound like the road will re-open right away. The NJDOT is designing a repair right now.

There is some good news, however, because they say that as soon as the repair design is finalized crews will work 24 hours a day until it's completed.

The DOT will set up a detour that takes advantage of the interchange's cloverleaf design:

  • Motorists leaving Trenton on Route 29 and Route 129, which becomes I-195, wishing to head south on I-295 will be directed to continue on I-195 eastbound to Exit 1D/Route 206 northbound.
  • Crossover I-195 and take the loop ramp to I-195 westbound.
  • Take Exit 1A to I-295 southbound.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

We'll keep you updated on the progress,
