People love their pets (me included), so it should come as no surprise that pet-owners would want to give their furry friends gifts for Valentine's Day.  What may surprise you is how much the average pet parent will spend.

According to a survey done by the National Retail Federation (NRF), pet owners are expected to spend $1.7 billion on Valentine's gifts for their pets this year.  That means the average person will spend $12.21 on their four-legged bff's.  (The NRF say the total and average are the both highest numbers they've seen since they started doing the survey in 2010).

By the way, in case you were worried that people would be spending more on their pets than on their spouses or significant others, the
NRF says that people plan on spending an average of $101.21 on their human Valentine's.
