Are New Jersey Best Buy Stores in Danger of Closing?
It sounds like another major retailer is in financial trouble. Best Buy is reportedly looking to close a dozen or more stores across the country this year. Will New Jersey be affected?
I miss the old days of Best Buy. In the 90s, I'd be there at LEAST twice a week, mostly Tuesdays and Fridays when new music and movie releases dropped. I built quite the CD and DVD collections from shopping at Best Buy.
But Best Buy has changed a lot over the last decade or so, moving into more electronics and appliances as the methods of collecting music and movies turned more digital.
It's not been going well, however. The consumer electronics chain has already shuttered 24 of its stores this year alone and it's barely April.
Best Buy Near Me
New Jersey remains home to about 20 Best Buy stores, including in Brick, Cherry Hill, Deptford, Manahawkin, Marlton, Mays Landing, Mt. Laurel, and Vineland.
Is Best Buy Closing in New Jersey?
Leaders at the top of Best Buy's food chain are reportedly planning a conclave to discuss which of its stores have been underperforming. Those are the locations that will be most in danger of being closed.
According to abc7.com, Best Buy bosses will look at each store's bottom line once their leases come up for renewal. Based on the revenue being generated, or not generated, those stores could end up on the chopping block.
You'd have to worry that with more than a dozen Best Buy's in New Jersey that some of the 10 to 15 stores the retailer plans to close in 2025 could be here. I don't like the implications because it would mean seeing more vacant spaces in shopping centers, these in particular HUMONGOUS vacancies because of the size of the stores.
I guess time will tell.
