My Wife is Obsessed With Bald Eagle Baby Watch Nest Cam

A live stream from California has been showing at my house almost all the time lately. It's a nest cam of expectant bald eagle parents named Jackie and Shadow and my wife Beth is obsessed with it.

Big Bear Bald Eagles Are Expecting Babies

In Southern California's Big Bear Valley, a pair of bald eagles are keeping constant watch over three eggs they are incubating in a nest high above the lake. Thousands of people-- including my family in Margate --  are keeping a close watch over them.

What we are seeing on the Bald Eagle Cam is an amazing glimpse into the everyday life of Jackie & Shadow.

Jackie -- the female -- laid a clutch of three eggs, instead of the more common two, on January 25, January 28, and January 31, which means the first pip could happen as early as this Thursday, Feb 29.

Fascinating Sights in a Bald Eagle Nest

While we wait for the baby bald eagles to hatch, viewers of the Friends of Big Bear Valley's website, friendsofbigbearvalley.org, are witnessing the daily life of the couple, like when Shadow brings Jackie a fish for dinner, or when flying squirrels Fiona and Fast Freddie make a cameo in the nest.

Then there's the incredible endurance the eagles show during the incubation process, as watched by the 600,000 followers of the Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam Facebook page.

"This is the longest time (Jackie) has ever stayed on the nest incubating her eggs without a break!—61 hours 58 minutes!"

 

Nest Cam Watching is Addictive

Beth has turned the entire office at work onto the bald eagle nest cam and everyone loves watching. And the best is still to come.

We are in the final days of the “Pip watch”, which refers to the tiny cracks eaglets make in their eggs with their beaks as they start to hatch.

With an incubation period of around 35 days, viewers should start looking for pips this week.
