It looks like Nicki Minaj could have a new album coming after all.

In a new Elle magazine interview, which likely took place before Nicki announced her retirement, the Queen Barbz revealed that her new project is on the way. Speaking to writer Véronique Hyland, Nicki confirmed that she was working on an LP, which she describes as being “fierce, fun, and unapologetic.”

“It’s probably the most excited I’ve been about an album release in a really long time,” she told the publication. “I’m happy that we’re not making my fans wait for another album like I’ve done in the past.”

Nicki is referring to the four-year lapse between the release of 2014’s The Pinkprint and 2018’s Queen albums. If the rap superstar does drop her new LP this year, it will be her fifth project as a solo artist.

“This one incorporates all the things people love about Nicki, but it also just has a way bigger sound, so it goes perfectly with the collection,” Nicki told Elle about the album.

Earlier this month, Nicki shocked the music world when she announced her retirement from the rap game. The veteran rhymer, who toured Europe earlier this year, posted a tweet suggesting that she's done with rap and is planning to start a family with her fiancé Kenneth "Zoo" Petty.

A day after her retirement announcement, Nicki jumped back on Twitter to apologize for her "abrupt [and] insensitive" tweet.

“I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that,” she wrote. “In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

There's no official word on when Nicki Minaj will drop her new album.
