R. Kelly is trying to obtain the best lawyers donated money can buy.

The embattled singer is facing multiple cases surrounding allegations with him and underage women. In what he sees as his best chance at beating the charges, Kelly is reportedly seeking the services of Michael Jackson's former lawyer, Tom Mesereau, according to a TMZ report published on Saturday (Aug. 24). Mesereau was able to get Jackson an acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005. The only problem is, Kelly is short on funds and is reportedly asking for assistance from his friends in the industry to help foot the bill.

The celebrity news site reports sources tell them some of Kelly's industry friends have been receptive to the plea and have offered to help him anonymously. Kelly is currently represented by Steven Greenberg, however. The Chicago native would reportedly have to let Greenberg go in order to get the borrowed bucks from friends.

Kelly has an uphill legal battle ahead of him no matter who represents him. The singer remains behind bars after being denied bail in his federal sex crimes case where he is charged with 13 counts, including child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice. Kelly pleaded not guilty to the charges. He also faces 11 felonies in Illinois related to sexual assault and abuse. The 52-year-old entertainer has maintained his innocence.

In related news, the singer's crisis manager recently quit after making controversial statements about Kelly during an interview.
