As we get our first sticky snowfall of the season in New Jersey today there is an important law to you'll want to abide by to avoid a ticket.

The law is simply to clean your car completely of snow and ice before you hit the road or you will get ticketed if you get caught.

This law was passed in 2010 by the state due to "concerns of other vehicles and pedestrians being struck by a wintry mix dislodged from fast-moving cars and trucks." says NJ.com.

The fines are no joke either.

You could potentially face "a fine of from $25 to $75 even if none of the snow and ice actually flies off the vehicle." says NJ.com.

If the snow and ice does fall off your vehicle and causes property damage be prepared to pay fines between $200 and $1,000.

And yes, it does get worse.

NJ.com says, "For drivers of commercial motor vehicles, such as tractor trailers, fines range from $500 to $1,500."

Moral of the story, clean your car before you hit the road, not just to avoid hefty fines, but also for the safety of others.
