🚨 A Bensalem police officer chased the motorcyclist on foot

🚨 The motorcyclist, holding a handgun turned slightly towards the officer who fired


 

BENSALEM, Pa. — Police fired at a motorcyclist who pointed a handgun at another vehicle during what they called a road rage incident late Saturday afternoon.

Bensalem police said a call was received via 911 from a driver headed north on Bristol Pike near Appleton Avenue around 5:45 p.m. who said a man on a motorcycle pointed a gun at their vehicle and passengers who feared for their life,  according to Bensalem Police Director of Public Safety William McVey.  The caller said the motorcyclist was still following him while he was on the phone.

An officer headed south on Bristol Pike  located them stopped in traffic and positioned his vehicle his vehicle between them and got out.

As the motorcyclist stopped he slid into the officer's vehicle and hit it, according to McVey. The motorcyclist got up and ran away. During a foot chase the motorcyclist, holding a black handgun in his right hand, turned slightly towards the officer

When the motorcyclist did not follow an order to show his hands the officer fired and struck the suspect dropping him to the ground, according to McVey.   The director could not confirm how many shots were fired by the officer. None were fired by the motorcyclist.

No charges yet filed

The motorcyclist had surgery and was in guarded condition as of Saturday night. The identity of the motorcyclist or a possible motive for the incident has not been disclosed by police.

No one in the vehicle or police officers were injured during the incident.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office is leading the investigation. No charges have been filed.
