Much to the dismay of some of its residents, Lawrence Township has canceled their beloved annual Memorial Day parade, according to Township Manager, Kevin Nerwinski.

Nerwinski said in a township blog that he was surprised to get some "push back" after announcing the news on the township Facebook page.To him it was an easy decision, since we are in the middle of a health crisis, to protect the health and safety of the community. To others in town, he made the decision too early and without considering that the parade can go on with proper social distance, since it's a long parade route.

Understanding the disappointment, as the Memorial Day Parade is a big deal in Lawrence (he's a longtime resident himself), he said residents will appreciate it even more in the future, now that they've been forced to miss it this year.
