Lil Nas X Had $5.62 in His Bank Account Before “Old Town Road” Became a Hit
Lil Nas X was a starving artist before his song “Old Town Road” became a viral hit on the internet. That's a status he reflected on in a hilarious new conversation with the seemingly omniscient interviewer, Nardwuar.
When Nardwuar asked the 20-year-old rapper about whether it was true that he only had $5.62 in his Wells Fargo bank account before making it big with his ubiquitous hit song, Nas X was quick to confirm.
“That's me. I’m not with them anymore, but shout outs to Wells Fargo, for making me broke,” he quipped.
Although Nas X only had five bucks to his name, he was able to stretch it to the very last dollar. “I spread it out,” he explained. “I would get like, some Now or Laters every now and again and promote on Twitter.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Nardwuar gifted Lil Nas X with a bottle of poop emoji bubble bath that he said he will use when he gets back to his hotel.
The Columbia Records artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, also revealed that his father is a famous gospel singer. Nas X also thanked the BeatStars app and Young Kio for the “Old Town Road” beat he purchased for $29.99. Oh, and he can also milk a cow.
Thankfully, Lil Nas X didn’t run away from Nardwuar like Lil Uzi Vert did the other day.
