Two hikers in New Jersey are lucky to be alive and they say it's thanks to an Apple Watch.

According to nbcnewyork.com, James Prudenciano and a date were hiking in Hartshorne Woods Park in Monmouth County when they fell nearly 100 feet off of a cliff.

Thankfully, Prudenciano was wearing his Apple Watch, which has a hard fall detection feature.

Here's how Apple describes the feature...

"If Apple Watch Series 4 or later detects a hard fall while you're wearing your watch, it taps you on the wrist, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert."

If your watch detects movement, it will ask you if you would like to send an SOS.  If it does not detect movement, it will automatically contact emergency services.

Prudenciano told nbcnewyork.com that his Apple Watch did just that and sent GPS coordinates to 911.  As a result, the couple was rescued by first responders.

The website cultofmac.com has several other examples of when features of the Apple Watch helped to save the life of its users.  Read the article here.
