The Capital Area YMCA just announced that they have been forced to cancel all summer camps. The Trenton based organization made the announcement late Monday evening (May 18).

This means that Prospect Village Summer Camp, Dance Intensive Camp, Trenton Summer Camp, Rider Summer Camp, and Summer Camp at Lawrence Presbyterian Church are all canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you had registered for one of these camps you will be refunded as quickly as possible, the YMCA says.

"We are in the process of developing contingency planks in a new COVID-19 environment," they wrote in Monday's letter. "Which will encompass new safety standards for all programs and services for our eventual re-opening once we get the go ahead from the government."

The Y says that their team is "hard at work" as they get ready to provide services and welcome the community back to their facilities. However, they emphasized in Monday night's announcement that they won't do that until it is safe.

"Once we receive guidance from state officials, we will work closely with our local public health officials to determine the appropriate methods and timing to reopen our facilities and programs," the YMCA says.

The good news is that Y officials are working on putting together virtual classes for the entire family. They expect to launch those in mid-June, according to the release.

Capital Area YMC facilities remain closed until further notice, but they are still serving the community with vital needs.

They are offering free grab n' go meals for children at various locations throughout Trenton. Visit their website by clicking here for more information. So far they've served more than 89 thousand meals to local families since the COVID-19 crisis began in mid-March.

Additionally, they've provided more community support including family engagement and resources, supportive phone calls for those at risk, and more.
