UPDATE: The highway re-opened midday Monday.
A busy portion of Route 1 in the Bensalem area of Bucks County is likely to remain closed through the remainder of the Monday morning rush, police say. Officials have told media outlets, like Philadelphia's CBS 3, that a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of the roadway around 3:30 am.
All lanes in both the north and southbound directions remained closed as of 7:00 am on Monday, and officials say it’s likely to remain closed throughout the morning.
The accident occurred between I-295 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (near the Neshaminy Mall). Traffic reporters like NBC 10’s Sheila Watko say that drivers should take I-295/I-95 to Woodhaven Road and Business Route 1.
