Even though New Jersey is one of the most densely populated states in the country, it is also one of the safest.

It was reported by The National Council for Home Safety and Security that the Garden State is the third safest state for property crime. The state's violent crime rate is less than half of the national average.

Here are the safest areas in New Jersey according to Alarms.org:

1. River Vale Township
2. Warren Township
3. Washington Township, Morris County
4. Ringwood
5. Tenafly

What's even more impressive is that the latest research from The National Council For Home Safety and Security shows that River Vale Township had 16 total crimes. Only one of those crimes were considered violent and the other 15 were property crimes.

I grew up in Trenton and then moved to Hamilton Township, and I was little upset to see that the top five towns of New Jersey that are safest did not include any towns from Mercer County. Yet I can't complain too much because it's still nice to know the whole state is still considered one of the safest in the United States.
