Speed traps were back on 295 this weekend

I can't speak for every major highway when I say this, but 295 has felt like a road where you never have to worry about cops running speed traps.

I drive it every morning and afternoon; rarely do I see police officers on the road. Even rarer is seeing someone actually get pulled over.

It's led to Jersey drivers pushing the boundaries. All of a sudden, driving 80mph has become going 90mph. If you know there isn't a good chance of being pulled over, you'll go a bit faster. The same goes for excessive lane switching. That's everywhere too. And when you're going 90mph, it makes it that much more dangerous.

Everything was different this Saturday. For the first time in a long time, police officers were out in full force pulling over drivers on 295. In a span of 15 minutes, I saw four drivers pulled over. There were signs to make drivers aware of the crackdown, but clearly many missed the memo.

And I'm not saying police need to be patrolling the highway all day. I understand that they have better things to do than be running radar. But it was nice to see some enforcement on a road that routinely sees drivers get out of hand everyday.

If there's the threat of getting points on your license, or just a fine, it may make one of our major highways safer.
