BREAKING: Jussie Smollett Found Guilty
Actor Jussie Smollett has been found guilty in most of the charges against him for lying that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack.
A Chicago jury just found the former 'Empire' actor guilty in 5 of the 6 counts of felony disorderly conduct.
He was found guilty on charges of disorderly conduct and providing a false report to the police when he said he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019.
Prosecutors alleged that Smollett hired brothers Abel and Bola Osuniaro to stage the attack against Smollett.
The crime is punishable by up to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Cook County Judge James Linn will rule on the sentence at a later date. The actor does not have a prior record so he could just face a fine and probation sentence.
The City of Chicago is suing him in civil court for $130,000, which is the amount they say they spent on the investigation.
This is a developing story. We'll have more details when they're made available.
