NJ Schools to Teach LGBTQ Lessons in Pilot Program
Under a new pilot program, 12 New Jersey schools will be the first to teach LGBTQ history lessons in the state, according to News 12 New Jersey.
The rest of the schools throughout the state will start the curriculum in the new school year (September 2020), but, these 12 schools will try out the material first to see what works and what may not. The pilot program was organized by the advocacy group Garden State Equality, and they will welcome feedback from the schools chosen for the pilot program.
None of the schools are in the Mercer County area.
The 12 schools selected for the pilot program are:
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Asbury Park
Forrestdale School in Rumson
Haddon Heights Junior-Senior High School (middle and high school)
Highland Park School
Millburn Middle School
Newark Arts High School
Pinelands Regional Junior High School in Tuckerton
Bergen Arts and Science Charter Middle School in Hackensack
Bergen Arts and Science Charter High School in Hackensack
Chartertech High School for the Performing Arts in Somers Point
Unity Charter School in Morristown
The Garden State Equality manager, Ashley Chiappano says that the schools picked for the pilot program were schools that felt that they needed help in this area.
