Ocean City is Looking for More Lifeguards, EMTs

The Ocean City Beach Patrol announced a new round of lifeguard tryouts and is also hiring seasonal EMTs for this summer.

In a news release, the city of Ocean City said it plans to hold a second tryout for new lifeguards for this summer on Saturday, June 17th at 18th Street and the beach. Sign-ins are at 8 am. and tryouts begin at 9 am.

The competitive test will include a 500-meter ocean swim, a 500-meter ocean paddleboard, a one-half-mile beach run, a 500-meter erg, and a surf dash.

You must turn 16 years old by July 15th, 2023, and complete an interview and a physical examination to qualify.

Candidates under 16 years of age are not eligible to begin work as a lifeguard until their 16th birthday. Candidates under the age of 16 years old may be offered a position in Rookie School, according to the city.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol will also be hiring seasonal EMTs for 2023.

Ocean City Beach Patrol is interested in additional staffing to remain the most comprehensive open-water rescue agency on the Jersey Shore in its EMS Division.

Ocean City EMTs respond to a variety of medical calls and other public service assignments.

The OCBP EMS Division is looking for EMTs who can command medical scenes, work side-by-side with our lifeguards to effectively treat patients, and communicate effectively with dispatch and other first responder agencies.
