The Sixers are the saviors of Philly Sports Fans
The Philadelphia Eagles season ended with a playoff loss in the wildcard round while the Flyers are a disaster, losers of 16 of their last 18 games and tied for last place in the Metropolitan division with 39 points. The Flyers find ways to lose and they are infuriating to watch. The lockout that looms over Major League Baseball threatens to delay the start of the season and that leaves us with the only hope of excitement left with one of our four professional teams. The Philadelphia 76ers are Philadelphia Sports saviors, our Mount Rushmore.
The Sixers completed the blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets last Thursday by acquiring perennial NBA All-Star and 2018 NBA MVP James Harden. The move ended the Ben Simmons saga in Philadelphia and made the Sixers a true contender to win the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, in College Basketball, the Villanova Wildcats are always in contention and with March Madness around the corner, the 'Cats find themselves in the thick of it with a 20-6 record ahead of their matchup with the 6-19 Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday. This weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim we will talk about all the hot topics in Philadelphia Sports!
On Saturday’s show, Mike Carlin joins me in the studio and the Sixers will dominate the conversation. We will hear from the Sports Book Consigliere Dave Sharapan live from Las Vegas with his hot picks for college and pro basketball. The Phillies, the Flyers and the Eagles talk are all on the docket.
On Sunday’s show, Pete Thompson, Mike Carlin, and I will entertain and engage you with great sports talk. We will hear from a pioneer in sports talk radio Billy Werndl. Billy has been around for decades and has seen it all: His first interview was with Wilt Chamberlain. Billy and all his wisdom will talk about the state of Philly Sports. Then we hear from a local athlete who I watched grow up and is now the starting goalie for the Northeastern University Huskies, TJ Semptimphelter. As a freshman, TJ started in his first Beanpot Hockey Championship in Boston.
All that and more this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to Noon on 97.3 ESPN Radio South Jersey.
