Travel Channel just posted the Creepiest Places in All 50 States and their choice for New Jersey makes up a huge part of the state.

We're talking about the Pine Barrens, which according to wikipedia, spans 1.1 million acres across 7 counties in the Garden State.

It seems like the primary reason that Travel Channel chose the Pine Barrens is because it is the alleged home of the Jersey Devil.

Although it was mentioned by Travel Channel, many people believe that the mafia has killed and left bodies hidden in the Pine Barrens.  This legend may be due in big part by the TV series, The Sopranos.

Wikipedia says that "The Pine Barrens" was the name and setting of a popular episode of the HBO series.

Also, according to roadsideamerica.com, the Pine Barrens was where famous Mexican aviator, Emilio Carranza Rodriguez, crashed and died during a thunderstorm in 1928.  Rodriquez is honored with a monument in Tabernacle, NJ.
