Celebrate Black History Month while Supporting Local Businesses
All month long this February is just as good a time as any to reflect on and take part in Black History Month activities and offerings. In Philadelphia there’s a boozier way to celebrate, with a list of 10 Black-owned bars to hit on your next bar crawl through the city.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, Medina Oyefusi has a Black History Month bar crawl planned called “I Buy Black Too.” The ticketed affair will bring partiers to four different drinking establishments and a pop-up shop, by Society Hill’s beauty supply store, Marsh + Mane.
After going on a Black-owned bar crawl while visiting Washington D.C., Oyefusi, 22, and her partner Aaron Robinson, 21, decided to come up with their own for Philly.
“I feel like there are a lot of businesses owned by Black people and people of color that aren’t highlighted,” Oyefusi told Billy Penn. “So I felt like there was a market here. People seemed interested…and the businesses were excited to participate.”
