You may not believe this, but drivers in New Jersey speed.  Duh!  The New Jersey Department of Transportation actually tracks the number of people who speed and about 3 out of 4 drivers on Route 1 in Mercer County regularly exceed the speed limit.

Well, one New Jersey lawmaker has a solution --- raise the speed limit.  A recent article on northjersey.com talked about how Sen. Declan O’Scanlon has suggested letting "the (speed) limits reflect how fast most people are already driving."  Apparently, this suggestion is something that many traffic engineers endorse.  In fact, they claim that raising speed limits will actually cut down on both accidents and traffic congestion.

Obviously, there are many people who oppose this idea, but if it ever got approved, it could mean speed limits being raised to as high as 80 mph on many New Jersey highways.
