Just one day after "National Love Your Pet Day," we have sad news from a local fire department as their beloved fire pup passed away.

Hamilton Township Fire District 9 & Groveville Fire Company had to say their goodbyes to their 11-year-old Dalmatian, Ember, when she passed away this week.

Ember joined the fire company back in 2006 and quickly became a favorite around the firehouse. She was also very popular around the community. Of course, local kids loved to see her during Fire Prevention Week, where she demonstrated the 'stop, drop & roll' for students.

As she became older, she would stand watch around the firehouse and got lots of treats from all the firefighters on duty. She was a beloved mascot and will be missed by many.

I think everyone who owns a pet knows, when it's time for them to go to the rainbow bridge, it's a difficult time. Take it from someone who lost their pup about 3 years ago, it never gets easier. Pets can be such a big part of our lives, so when they leave us, it's very hard to cope. So we're thinking about the firefighters & community who loved Ember.
