Looks like Liam Payne will be the next 1D alum to officially step out on his own.

The "Familiar" singer announced via Twitter on Thursday night (August 16) that his debut solo EP, First Time, will arrive August 24. He also shared an emotional letter explaining why he was releasing an EP instead of his previously teased full-length record, which he said he finished quite some time ago.

"As you may know, the last few months have seen some big changes for me," he wrote. "I looked at some of the songs on my album which were done a while ago and they felt from another age. I'm determined for my debut album to truly represent me. I'm now back in the studio working hard to finalise the final few new songs on the record -- I'm genuinely excited about the music I'm writing and recording and I can't wait for it to be ready for you all."

In the meantime, he's offering the EP — a collection of songs he says he's "really proud of" — as a means to tide fans over.

Payne didn't reveal an official tracklist for the project, but has released a host of singles since One Direction announced their hiatus in 2016, including the Quavo-assisted "Strip That Down," Zedd team-up "Get Low," J. Balvin collab "Familiar," "Bedroom Floor," and 50 Shades Freed single "For You" with Rita Ora.

The First Time title track, featuring French Montana, is currently available for pre-order.
