Job seekers in Philadelphia are getting some of the stress of the process relieved with the help of Lyft.

According to phillyvoice.com, Lyft launched the Job Access Program across 52 markets in the U.S., including in Philadelphia. This program will provide unemployed passengers with free or discounted rides until the third week of employment or until the rider gets their first paycheck phillyvoice.com says.

Phillyvoice.com also shared that in a press release, a Lyft spokesperson said, “For the unemployed, reliable transportation to a job interview or to the first few weeks of work can mean the difference between successful, long-term employment and lost opportunities.” This statement can’t be any closer to the truth. Finding a job can be a very difficult process and travel to an interview or first day can also be stressful for a number of reasons. You can be tired, nervous, have a bad week or day, or the drive itself can be stressful. We understand why Lyft decided to launch this program.

With the Job Access Program, Lyft hopes to close the transportation gap in low-income communities, according to phillyvoice.com. Lyft also found that 42% of riders don’t own or lease a vehicle, and 66% of their rides start and end in low-income areas phillyvoice.com states. With this in mind, this program could help people with job seeking, getting to that job, and getting home for little to no cost until the rider starts getting paid.
