The man wanted in connection with a shooting on a New York City subway car earlier today has Philadelphia roots, officials announced tonight.

Law enforcement officials say that 62-year-old Frank James has been identified as a person of interest in the shooting, which took place during the Tuesday morning rush.

James has addresses in both Philadelphia and Wisconsin, officials say. A manhunt is underway for this man.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call the NYC Police Department immediately at 1-800-577-TIPS.

The Suspect Rented a U-Haul in Philadelphia Yesterday

Authorities believe that James rented a U-Haul in the city of Philadelphia yesterday.
A key to that U-Haul key was recovered at the scene of the crime, and the van was located earlier this afternoon by officials.

Television footage of that van shows the words "Allegheny West" on the side of the vehicle. There is a U-Haul storage company in the city's Allegheny West neighborhood. A U-Haul spokesperson tells NBC10 that they are aware of an ongoing investigation, but would not comment any further.

Authorities believe James drove the van from Philadelphia to New York City on Monday (based on license plate reader data), NBC New York reports.

Officials have obtained video from early Tuesday morning where the man appeared to emerge from the van ahead of this attack. That man appears to match James' description, NYC's WNBC reported.

It's unclear if James could have possibly returned to Philadelphia, but a massive manhunt remains underway at this point in New York City.

Shooting Sends Terror on NYC Subway

At least 29 people were shot or otherwise injured during the incident, which took place just before 8:30 am in Brooklyn. Police believe that a lone gunman, wearing a vest and gas mask, threw smoke bombs on a subway car before he began shooting.

The shooting took place on a Manhattan-bound N Train as it approached the platform at the 36th Street station in Sunset Park.
