Mexican Restaurant Opening in Lawrence

A new Mexican restaurant is opening in Lawrence soon, according to Facebook, and locals seem to be excited about the news.

There was chat about this new Mexican restaurant, called Chenca y Chole, in The Lawrence Township, NJ Community group recently. It's coming soon to the strip shopping center on Whitehead Road and Business Route One (2068 Brunswick Avenue), where Rita's Italian Ice and Dollar General are currently located. It will be occupying the old Papa John's pizza location. There's a yellow, township Construction Permit Notice hanging in the store window, so it looks like they'll be making some changes to the existing storefront before it opens to the public.

One person commented in the Facebook group that there's a restaurant of the same name located in Trenton (865 South Broad Street), and wondered if that restaurant would be relocating to Lawrence, or if this will be a second location. In any case, the she said the food was great and she was excited. Others agreed that if it was the same place, the food is top notch. One resident said there could never be enough Mexican food places in the township. I agree. I love Mexican food.

After doing a quick Google search, it looks like there are only 2 other Mexican restaurants in Lawrence. La Taqueria is on Route 206, very close to Tastee Subs (1143 Lawrenceville Road). Many of my friends go there regularly, and say the food is fabulous, especially the empanadas. The other restaurant is called Totopos (1279 Brunswick Avenue), near the Brunswick Circle.

I can't wait to give this new one a try. I'll let you know when it opens.
