A team from Elizabeth, NJ has won the right to represent the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States in this year's Little League World Series.

The Elmora Youth LL beat a team from New York last night to advance into this year's tournament in Williamsport, PA.

According to the tournament's official website, the Little League World Series started in 1947.  The tournament is held in Williamsport, PA, which is the town where Little League was founded in 1939.

A search on littleleague.org shows that the last time a team from New Jersey took part in the Little League World Series in Williamsport was 2017, when Holbrook LL from Jackson took part.

According to wikipedia, New Jersey has won the Little League World Series 4 times --- 1949, 1970, 1975 and 1998.

Todd Frazier of the New York Mets was a member of the 1998 team from Toms River.  Yesterday, Frazier retweeted a post from the Elmora team's Twitter account:

 


 

Elmora will play their first game in Williamsport on Friday at 8pm.  They will take on a team from Oregon, who is representing the U.S. Northwest.  The game will be televised live on ESPN.  For a complete schedule, click here.
