Queen Latifah to build $14M Worth of New Housing

Did you know the legend Queen Latifah was from Newark? Well she is, and she's coming home to give back to her community! She plans to invest in a bunch of family town homes along Springfield Avenue and South 17th Street.

This entire project is supposed to be worth 14 million dollars, and the ground breaking will be this summer!

The project includes 20 three-family town homes and a three-story mixed-used building with an additional 16 units. The neighborhood will include not only a gym, but also a 1,900 square feet of commercial space that will be rented to nonprofits.

Best part of all of this, Queen Latifah is pricing these homes at affordable rates. The 60 units in the townhouses will be market rate ad start at $1,800 a month. Those homes are expected to be open by December 2020. As for the affordable housing building, units will be priced according to a person's income. They will be available in December 2021.

So shout out to the Queen for recognizing the need for affordable housing both in and around Newark.
