Here's everything you need to know about tonight's Powerball drawing

  • WHERE IS POWERBALL PLAYED?  Powerball is currently played in 44 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
  • WHEN ARE DRAWING HELD?  Powerball drawings are held twice a week - on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59pm ET.
  • HOW MUCH DO TICKETS COST?  Powerball tickets cost $2.
  • HOW MANY NUMBERS DO YOU PLAY PER TICKET?  You choose 5 numbers from 1-69 and 1 Powerball number from 1-26.
  • DO PLAYERS CHOOSE THEIR OWN NUMBERS?  Players can choose their own numbers or have a "computer" randomly choose their numbers.
  • HOW MUCH IS THE JACKPOT?  The jackpot starts at $40 million and grows each time there is no winner.  The largest Powerball jackpot ever was $1.586 billion in Jan. 2016.
  • HOW LATE ARE TICKETS FOR SALE?  Sales cut-off times can vary, but it is usually 1-2 hours before a drawing.
  • WHERE CAN POWERBALL TICKETS BE PURCHASED?  To search for a retailer in New Jersey, click here.  To search for a retailer in Pennsylvania, click here.  For retailers in other states, search for your local lottery commission.
  • CAN POWERBALL TICKETS BE PURCHASED ONLINE?  Some states allow residents to buy tickets online, but New Jersey and Pennsylvania do not.
  • IF YOU WIN, HOW LONG DO YOU HAVE TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE?  This varies based on where you reside, but it could range from 90 days to one year.  Expiration dates should be listed on a ticket.
  • IF YOU WIN, CAN YOU BE ANONYMOUS?  This also depends on where a winner resides.  Some states allow winners to be anonymous, while others do not.
  • ARE THERE PRIZES OTHER THAN THE JACKPOT?  There are 8 additional prizes, other than the jackpot.  Those prizes range from $4 up to $1 million dollars.
