7-Eleven is famous for giving out free slurpees on their birthday, July 11th. However, this year, the company will be celebrating its birthday a little differently. According to ABC 7, 7-Eleven wants to keep the customers and staff safe, and having the free slurpee day will just attract a big audience. Instead, 7-Eleven will be donating one million meals to Feeding America, which is the biggest hunger-relief organization in the United States.

7-Eleven’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Marissa Jarratt said in a blog post on the company's website, "Gathering nine million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn't feel right, but I am heartened that we now have the opportunity to help the communities and neighborhoods that have been the lifeline of our business since 1927."

Good news though, 7-Eleven customers are still able to get a free medium slurpee throughout the month of July. Customers have to download the free app and become a rewards loyalty member. This will allow the customer to use the free slurpee coupon beginning July 1st until July 31st. You can also use the 7NOW app to get your slurpee delivered right to your door.

7-Eleven is planning to make changes to its store guidelines such as employees wearing masks and gloves. They are also giving customers access to disposable gloves, tissues, and hand sanitizer throughout the store.

"For nearly two decades, July 11th has been the busiest day of the year for 7 Eleven stores as millions of customers visit us to kick off summer with their favorite frozen drink," Jarret said. "But this year, we have to make changes for the greater good. I hope you'll join us for the in-person party next year."
