Each year, the James Beard Foundation honors the best restaurants and chefs in America and last night, Zahav, located on St. James Place in Philadelphia won the award for "Outstanding Restaurant."

Zahav serves Modern Israeli Cuisine and according to the restaurant's website, "means 'gold' in Hebrew, and is a reference to Jerusalem."  Chef Michael Solomonov has been honored several times by the James Beard Foundation, including be named "Outstanding Chef" in 2017.

In February, we told you about two local chefs that were nominated for James Beard Awards.  Neither ended up winning.

Frenchette NYC, located on W. Broadway, won the award for "Best New Restaurant" and A&A Bake & Double Roti Shop in Brooklyn was named a Classics Honoree.

The James Beard Foundation is a non-profit organization that "promotes good food for good™."  The Foundation is "committed to giving chefs and their colleagues a voice and the tools they need to make the world more sustainable, equitable, and delicious for everyone."
