Over the last few years, the Fishtown section of Philadelphia has become one of the hottest spots in the city.  Some people compare it to Brooklyn due to the number of young people living in the community and the number of "hip" bars, restaurants and shops that call Fishtown home.

 

There's no doubt that Fishtown has become one of the trendiest addresses in all of Philly, but have you ever wondered why Fishtown is actually called Fishtown?

According to visitphilly.com, Fishtown encompasses the area "north of Girard, south of Lehigh, east of Front and west of the Delaware River" and the name comes from the fact that this section of the city was once the center of the shad-fishing industry.
