Everybody Panic, There’s a Nationwide White Claw Shortage!
Oh no! We’ve just learned some horrible news. Apparently, there’s a shortage of White Claw. Seriously, though, the manufacturer of White Claw Hard Seltzer confirmed the news today.
Essentially the popular beverage has just become a victim of its own success. Sales grew by 283% this July over last year, according to published reports. The manufacturer has struggled to keep up with demand.
Now officials say they’re working hard to increase the supply of the drink.
"We are working around the clock to increase supply given the rapid growth in consumer demand," Sanjiv Gajiwala, White Claw's senior vice president of marketing, tells CNN Business. "White Claw has accelerated faster than anyone could have predicted."
The spiked seltzer industry has become a crowded landscape. Brands like Truly and Bon & Viv are already popular with consumers, as other companies (like Anheuser-Busch) begin manufacturing beverages in this category.
Having said that, it appears as if White Claw is the most popular spiked seltzer on the market right now. The sales of White Claw accounted for nearly 55% of all hard seltzer sales for the week of Fourth of July, CNN reported.
Bar owners across the country are reporting that they struggle to keep White Claw in stock at their venues. One distributor told Business Insider that he's actually stopped selling White Claw because they can't get enough supply.
"We order 10,000 cases and maybe get 30. It's gotten harder in the past two months, ever since White Claw went viral. They're saying they're going to ramp up production, but we've got football season coming up, I don't know how they're going to do it," the distributor told the publication.
Others in the industry like Richboro Beer and Soda owner, Ken Wieler, told Business Insider, that his local distributor has placed limits on order quantities of hard seltzer because of the shortages.
