Flesh Eating Bacteria Invading NJ Lakes!
Please be careful when swimming in the lake or ocean this summer. There have been numerous cases all over the country of people being infected by a flesh eating bacteria. Sometimes the cases result in death. Unfortunately, the toxic bacteria has invaded New Jersey waters.
As of this week, Greenwood Lake in West Milford became the latest New Jersey waterbody to be closed for swimming by the spread of toxic bacteria in a harmful algal bloom.
According to NJ.com, this specific type of bacteria can cause a skin rash if touched.If its ever consumed, it can cause abdominal pain, headaches, vomiting, nausea, blistering around the mouth and flu-like symptoms. Animals as well can be severely affected by this bacteria as well.
So it is being advised to never go into a waterbody with a open cut or wound. Also be careful of the seafood you consume because there have been some cases of people affected just by eating uncooked fish.
