What's that saying? Another one bites the dust? Yup. Pier 1 has announced that it's closing about half of its stores, according to NJ.com.

That's no small number. There are 942 stores, and up to 450 stores will be shut down for good. I guess the online competition for home decor was proving too big. No word on which locations will be shutting its doors.

I always get upset when I hear news like this, thinking how will I live without this store, but, the truth is, I hardly went to Pier 1. Their commercials are fun, and do draw me into the store on occasion, but, I usually leave empty handed. I'd rather go to HomeGoods for cute plates, holiday decor, or other random things. It's much less expensive.

The company also said it's closing distribution centers, and has layoff plans at its corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.

Local Pier 1 stores are in West Windsor on Route 1 North, near Lowe's, Hamilton Marketplace, Freehold, Newtown, and Fairless Hills.
