Earlier today, Governor Murphy announced that the Jersey Shore's iconic beaches will be open in time for Memorial Day Weekend 2020.

In preparation, a lot of our beach communities are announcing new rules and procedures to keep social distancing in check for the start of the 2020 summer season.

We heard from Seaside Heights officials earlier this week, now Point Pleasant Beach officials are also weighing in.

Here are some of the rules that will be enacted in Point Pleasant Beach to start the season:

Beaches

• Beach badges will be required on Memorial Day Weekend and weekends until June 20th
• Starting the weekend of June 20th, beach badges will be required at all times.
• Beach badges can be purchased both online and at beach entrances, with credit cards being the preferred payment method.
• According to officials, "the beach will be held to a maximum capacity limit. When daily capacity is reached, no more patrons will be allowed."
• Swimming will only be permitted when badge checkers and lifeguards are on duty.
• No groups of 10 or more will be allowed.

Parking

• State of Emergency parking restrictions are in effect east of the Point Pleasant Beach New Jersey Transit station starting this Friday, May 15th.
• Parking will only be available to residents with a borough issued placard.
• 15 minute parking will be allowed for people engaging in curbside pickup from a business.

Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra notes that officials expect that parking restrictions will begin to be phased out in mid-June.
