Last year, the zoning hearing board in Middletown granted permission to the Newport Plaza Shopping Center to open an indoor gun range, last week, it was shot down. The township's zone hearing board made a big mistake in granting permission in the first place. The shopping center isn't allowed to have an indoor gun range at all.

There were many concerns brought to light during the hearing like the noise that would occur in the shopping center and the gun range altering the neighborhood’s personality and overall appeal.

Overall, Township supervisors felt that the zoning department totally messed up in approving the gun range and there were many mistakes made on their part. Owners of Newport Plaza Shopping Center may still try to put the gun range in Middletown, but township supervisors will definitely be keeping a close eye on everything required to do so.
