Travel Channel just released a list of the best pizza in each of the 50 states and tops in New Jersey went to Taconelli's in Maple Shade.

According to the restaurant's website, the history of Taconelli's dates back to 1918 when Giovanni Tacconelli immigrated to the United States from his home in Italy.

In Italy, Giovanni was a bread maker and after a few years in America, he decided to start baking and selling breads in Philadelphia.

Fast-forward to 1946.  That's when Giovanni decided to start baking tomato pies.  The rest, they say, is history.

In 2003, the Taconelli family opened a restaurant in Maple Shade, NJ.  That restaurant is now located at 27 W. Main Street.

Ironically, although Taconelli's started with tomato pies, Travel Channel says that Taconelli's signature white pie is "the way to go."
