After giving this more than five minutes of thought, I have come to the conclusion that the intersection of Route 1 and Bakers Basin Road in Lawrenceville is the worst intersection in Mercer County.

I have no statistics to back this claim up so it's just my personal experience, but I am pretty confident in my opinion.

The Bakers Basin area has always been a busy portion of Route 1, but it got even busier when a Wawa and McDonald's opened a few years ago. I'll be the first to admit that I love having a Wawa and McDonald's on this stretch of Route 1. I mean, for the longest time, there were little to no options on Route 1 between Trenton and South Brunswick where you could grab a quick snack.

So my problem is not with the stores, it's with the traffic issues that are caused by those stores.

If you are traveling south on Route 1 and want to turn left onto Bakers Basin, you usually have to wait in a long line before even attempting to get to the light to cross over Route 1.  Most times, you just have to force your way into traffic unless you happen to get lucky and find another driver to let you in.

On the other hand: if you are traveling north on Route 1, you have aggressive drivers pulling out of the store's parking lots trying to force their way into traffic stopped at the light at the intersection.

I've witnessed several accidents (and a ton of close calls) on both sides of the road. In fact, my friend, Chris Rollins (yes, "the" Chris Rollins), was almost hit by a car on this section of roadway.

There has got to be a solution to this traffic nightmare, but that's not my job.  That's the job of a traffic engineer.  Let me know what you think.

Is this the worst intersection in Mercer County or is there one that's even worse?
