VIDEO: Runaway Tire Causes Accident On NJ Highway

According to abc7NY,com a single-car accident that occurred yesterday on Route 400 in Edison, NJ was caused by a runaway tire.

The tire in question was rolling at a high speed when it bounced onto the median and proceeded to careen into oncoming traffic, where it struck a Jeep.

The incident was caught on video.

abc7NY.com says that the driver of the Jeep, John Rice of Piscataway, was not injured in the crash, but his vehicle suffered major damage.

Rice told abc7NY.com that his wife and 3 children were driving in a vehicle right in front of him when the accident happened.  In fact, the tire clipped the back of his wife's car before striking his Jeep.

New Jersey State Police are trying to find out where the tire came from.  It is believed to have fallen off of a dump truck.
