YMCA’s Week Without Violence Kicks Off Next Week
The YWCA is a long standing non-profit organization that advocates for women and gives them opportunities for continuing education, physical exercise, job registries, house support, and currently sexual violence.
The annual YWCA Week Without Violence begins next week. The purpose is to raise awareness for gender-based violence and their mission is to eliminate racism, stand up for social justice, and strengthen communities. This week long event is taking place nationwide; YWCA’s across the country including the ones in our area will take over social media and the streets to take action against gender-based injustices.
Each day has a theme or group of people it is dedicated to. Monday October 14th is Indigenous People’s day, Tuesday is for getting Senators to support the Violence Against Women Act, Wednesday goes online to campaign against violence on social media, Thursday we go back to the local legislators to urge them to take action, lastly Friday October 18th is for ending gun violence.
