According to Wikipedia, sometime in the mid-1970's, a Colorado man decided to make his birthday, January 23rd, National Pie Day.  Somehow, it stuck and since 1986, it has been sponsored by the American Pie Council.

In honor of National Pie Day, you may want to check out a small cafe in the area that specializes in pie.  On Main Street in Moorestown is a little shop called the Pie Lady Cafe. So...who is the Pie Lady?  According to the Moorestown Sun, the Pie Lady is a Christine McHale.  Christine grew up baking with her mother and grandmother.  Years later, while driving on Main Street, she " had an intense feeling sweep over her to pursue her dream of opening a bake shop."  That shop, the Pie Lady Cafe, opened on Dec. 23, 2008 and the rest is history.
