We're learning about a large forest fire that has broken out in southern Burlington County. It's believed the fire is already greater than 1,000 acres. The exact details, however, were not immediately clear.

Smoke and haze have been reported throughout Ocean and Burlington Counties, and officials have begun closing roads in the immediate area of the fire.

The fire appeared to be centered in Washington & Woodland townships.

Officials from the NJDOT say have closed Route 72 in the area from Four Mile Circle and Route 539.

It's not clear if any structures are in danger (as of 5:30 pm Saturday). The smoke plume, however, can be seen for miles on weather radar:

This is a developing story.
