Not everyone is a fan of the outdoors, but with summer coming to an end, I’m trying to get any excuse to go outside before it gets cold out.

On August 24th, The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will host its Garden and Music festival at Davidson’s Mill Pond.

The day will be filled with family oriented activities for garden lovers.  Activities include, a garden tour, presentations, and showcases on gardening and landscaping as well as live music.

According to patch.com the biggest highlight of the day will be the annual “Greatest of the Garden” competition. Gardeners are welcomed and encouraged to bring their biggest home grown produce. The categories include:

  • Biggest tomato
    · Biggest cucumber
    · Biggest squash
    · Biggest watermelon
    · Longest gourd
    · All vegetables: Best Likeness to a Celebrity or Historical Figure

The event will take place rain or shine… but let’s hope that the sun is shining. So grab all your garden and earth loving friends and head down to Davidson’s Park for a day of grass and gardens.
