We're seeing a few reports online this afternoon that Verizon Wireless customers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania are reporting outages with their cell phone service.

The company itself has not officially commented on any outages, but the website DownDetector.com (which tracks this sort of thing) is showing an onslaught of reported service issues from customers in the Northeast this afternoon for about the past half or so (since 1:30 pm).

Customers are reporting that the issues are showing up in various ways, but we're hearing that calls are failing and unable to connect for the most part for the affected customers.

At 1:55 pm, the company tweeted that they were aware of the issues and an investigation is underway.

"We are starting to hear some chatter from our customers. We are working on getting more details," Verizon Wireless wrote on Twitter.

Frustrated customers are venting all over social media, as of 2:00 pm Friday.

This is a developing story. We'll have more soon.
