Notice a Weird Smell in the Air on Thursday in Philly?
If you were in Philly Thursday and you happened to smell a weird stench, you weren't the only one. Dozens of people reported to The Philadelphia Fire Department of the air containing a smell that made it unbearable to breath.
Well according to PhillyMag.com, it came from the Philadelphia Energy Solutions oil refinery complex in Southwest Philadelphia. It's worthy of noting that this business has gone bankrupt and will soon be shut down. The Fire Department stated in a tweet that PES was cleaning and disassembling pipe, and the odor was released.
“The fire department’s Hazmat Task Force conducted air monitoring and did not detect hydrogen fluoride or other potentially volatile substances,” the department said. “The release has stopped and the incident has been placed under control.”
You may remember back in July when a similar incident happened at this same place of business. There were multiple explosions on site that ultimately released the smell into the air and warranted its closure.
As of now, the smell should be gone. So we can all go back to breathing normally.
